Ingredients

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll need to make this apple fritter bread.

For the Bread:

  • All-Purpose Flour- The foundation of our bread, providing structure.
  • Granulated Sugar- It sweetens the bread.
  • Butter- Softened butter ensures a rich, moist texture in every bite.
  • Eggs- They bind the ingredients together and give the bread its structure.
  • Sour Cream- A secret weapon for moisture, it also adds a hint of tanginess.
  • Baking Powder & Salt- Baking powder is a leavening agent to ensure your bread rises just right. Salt enhances flavor.
  • Vanilla Extract- Adds a subtle, sweet aroma that complements the other flavors.

For the Apple Filling:

  • Apples- Choose a crisp variety like Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, or Pink Lady for a perfect, sweet-tart combo.
  • Cinnamon & Brown Sugar- This duo transforms the apples into a spiced, caramelized delight.

For the Glaze:

  • Powdered Sugar– Powdered sugar is non-negotiable. It dissolves well and makes the glaze wonderfully sweet.
  • Milk– Add more for a runny glaze. Less for a thick glaze.
  • Vanilla Extract– For a touch of complexity.
  • Salt– Cuts the sweetness of the glaze and enhances flavor.

2. Cream the butter and sugar. In a large bowl, beat sugar and softened butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.

3. Add the wet ingredients. Start with eggs and vanilla extract. Beat them until combined. Then, add sour cream to your sugar and butter mixture. Beat to combine.

4. Incorporate the dry ingredients. Mix in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Do not overmix.

5. Make the apple filling. Combine the chopped apple with cinnamon and brown sugar in a separate bowl.

6. Make the cinnamon-sugar filling. In another bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.

7. Layer your ingredients. Start layering your ingredients in the loaf pan. Begin with half of the bread mixture.

Then, add half of the apple mixture. Then, the cinnamon sugar fillings. Repeat with the remaining halves.

8. Bake your bread. Place your loaf in the oven and bake for 40 minutes. Cover the pan with foil if the bread browns too quickly.

9. Let it cool. Allow your apple fritter bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, you can transfer it to a plate.

10. Prepare and add the glaze. Add powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt in a separate bowl. Whisk to combine.

If the glaze is too thick, add more milk until you reach your desired consistency. Then, drizzle it over the bread.

11. Serve and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

Making apple fritter bread is a breeze with these handy tips and tricks!

  • Choose the best apples. Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, and Pink Lady apples are great for baking. They provide a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness.
  • Don’t overmix the batter. As with any other quick bread recipe, gentle mixing is vital. Ensure you only mix until there are no more streaks of flour to avoid tough bread.
  • Use dark brown sugar. If possible, use dark brown sugar for the filling to enhance the caramel flavor.
  • Bake to perfection. Watch your bread closely in the last minutes of baking. Remove from heat when an inserted knife comes out mostly clean. The top should be golden.
  • Let the bread rest. Give your bread enough time to cool and set before slicing into it.
  • Add spices to the glaze. A pinch of cinnamon gives your bread an extra delicious bit of warmth. You can also try apple or pumpkin pie spices.

How to Store and Freeze

Store leftover apple fritter bread properly to keep it delicious and fresh for days.

Here’s how to do it!

At Room Temperature:

Wrap your apple fritter bread with foil or plastic wrap, and pop it in a bag. It will keep well on the countertop for 1-2 days.

In the Fridge:

Fruit in desserts can spoil if left out, so the fridge is your friend here. Cover the bread and refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Just warm up your slice in the microwave or oven. It’ll taste just like new!

In the Freezer:

Not planning to eat it right away? The freezer is a fantastic option.

Let the bread cool, then wrap it with plastic wrap and foil. Put the wrapped loaf in a sealable bag and label it.

Frozen apple fritter bread can last up to 6 months. However, the flavor is best in the first month.

When you’re ready to enjoy it, let it thaw at room temperature in its wrapping. This way, it reabsorbs any lost moisture.
