It doesn’t matter if you call it Rotel dip, Velveeta sausage dip, or simply cheese dip. This stuff is a masterpiece!
It’s creamy, cheesy, and effortless to make! Plus, it’s the perfect crowd-pleasing, all-occasion appetizer.
You can easily whip up Velveeta sausage dip in the microwave or a slow cooker. Either way, it requires very minimal work.
And while it may not look as gorgeous as other, more elegant appetizers, it’s supremely tasty.
Serve it with tortilla chips, celery sticks, or other dippers for a delightfully filling snack.
Velveeta Sausage Dip
Know what’s better than thick, creamy, ooey-gooey melted cheese?
Thick, creamy, ooey-gooey melted cheese with Rotel tomatoes and chunks of juicy sausage!
This smooth, flavorful dip comes together in a matter of minutes. It also stays perfectly smooth and won’t seize up as it starts to cool.
Finally, it tastes just as good reheated as it does fresh! Hard to beat that!
Ingredients
As always, there are a few different variations for this dip. Most stick to the three-ingredient promise, but you can modify it however you choose!
The basic recipe requires only:
- Velveeta cheese. This mild cheddar cheese will stay smooth and melt perfectly. If you’re feeling really adventurous, why not try making your own?
- Breakfast pork sausage. Using pork sausage adds a salty, meaty flavor that makes this dip pop. It’s pretty mild and mixes well with the other ingredients.
- Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilis. The entire thing will go into this dip, juices, and all!
Tips for Making the Best Sausage Dip
This three-ingredient dip is so fast, you can have it on the table in less than 10 minutes. Below are some great tips for making it just right every time!
- Cut the cheese into cubes. That’s the best way to ensure it melts uniformly.
- Don’t forget to stir. It doesn’t matter if you’re using the microwave or cooking it on the stove. Stirring will help the cheese melt and prevent burning.
- Taking it for a party? Use a portable lunch warmer to keep it warm!
- Cook and drain the sausage properly. Be sure to fully cook the sausage. It won’t cook further in the microwave. Also, drain it well before adding it to the cheese.
Variations and Additions
If Velveeta isn’t your favorite, or if you’re not a huge fan of sausage, the good news is that this dip can be changed so easily. Check out these variations:
- Cut down on the cheese. Simply use 8 ounces of cream cheese instead of all that Velveeta.
- Make it in a slow cooker. Just mix everything in the pot. Then, leave it to cook on low for 2 to 3 hours.
- Add extras. Sprinkle crumbled bacon over the top or use taco-seasoned ground beef to add more flavor. You can also add a few dashes of hot sauce or cayenne to the mix.
- Leave out the meat. Simply omit it from the recipe or add beans for a heartier dip.
- Make it creamier. Add a can of cheddar soup. You could also use mushroom soup for a creamier dip with a richer flavor.
- Vary the cheese. For something more subtle, try white queso. You can still add the sausage, but it would also work wonderfully with shredded chicken.
What to Pair with Velveeta Sausage Dip
Since this dip is packed with flavor, you can easily serve it with a variety of things. Here are some of my favorites:
- Tortilla chips. Scoops chips would be particularly good since they hold more.
- Bread bowl. Serve it INSIDE the bread bowl. Simply cut the middle out and toast the excess bread to use as dippers.
- Veggies. Pairing this hot dip with cool and crunchy veggies is a nice way to balance it.
- Nachos. Instead of dipping into it, use it as a nacho topping with guacamole, salsa, and whatever else you like.
- Pasta. Who needs Alfredo or marinara when you can use this dip as the sauce? It also tastes great in homemade mac and cheese.
- Jalapeno poppers. Use it as the cheese inside the poppers, or dip them into it. Either way, it tastes incredible. It would also work in this jalapeno popper dip.
- Hot dogs. Forget mustard and ketchup! Top your hot dogs with this cheesy dip and chili for some phenomenal chili dogs.
I can’t wait to try some of the recipes. They all look so yummy. Thank you.
