Strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla milkshakes are delicious.
But this tropical mango milkshake? It blows them out of the water with its sweet, fruity, and refreshing flavors.
It features fresh mango, milk, and vanilla ice cream. Add cardamom for an Indian lassi-inspired depth, then dive in.
Why You’ll Love This Mango Milkshake Recipe
Just look at this thing! The vibrant color alone should be enough to make you want to try it.
But luckily, this fruity milkshake recipe tastes even better than it looks!
Smooth and Creamy
Ripe mangoes have a naturally silky texture. Mix them with good-quality ice cream and milk, and you’ll have a velvety finish every time.
And you don’t use ice, so you won’t have any crunchy, icy bits.
Easy to Make
This milkshake is ready in minutes. Just toss the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. No fancy skills or equipment are needed.
Plus, you only need six ingredients!
Customizable
Sweet, creamy, and super fruity; I think it’s perfect as is.
But, you can easily make it your own.
For example, you could add nuts, honey, or yogurt. Or try it with sorbet instead of ice cream. The possibilities are endless!
Ingredients
As mentioned, you only need six ingredients to make the best mango milkshake.
You’ll find the complete list of ingredients at the end of the post. Until then, here’s a quick rundown:
- Mango – Ripe, fresh mangoes have the best taste and texture. Use a sweet variety, like Alphonso or Ataulfo, if possible. My next choice would be canned mango slices, then frozen.
- Milk – It is a milk-shake, after all. Whole milk gives the best flavor. But you can use whatever you like best.
- Vanilla Ice Cream – It’s important to add ice cream to get the right milkshake texture when using fresh fruit. And vanilla will give you that, plus creamy richness, without muting the fruit flavors.
- Sugar – Just a pinch to enhance the sweetness of the fruit. You can also use simple syrup if you have it.
- Cardamom – It’s optional but highly recommended. Cardamom adds a hint of warmth and depth you do not want to miss!
- Whipped Cream – An optional garnish.
How To Make a Mango Milkshake
This recipe is so easy, even kids can make it. But before you grab that blender, let’s go over the steps, just in case.
1. Peel and cut mangoes. Smaller pieces will blend better.
2. Blend. Add the milk first, then the mango, ice cream, sugar, and cardamom. Blend until your milkshake is smooth and creamy.
3. Make adjustments. Taste the milkshake and add more sugar, cardamom, ice cream, or mango to taste.
4. Enjoy! Serve with whipped cream and an extra dash of cardamom.
Tips for the Best Mango Milkshake
As much as I adore fresh mango, I know it’s not available year-round.
So, here’s a few tips for making this mango milkshake recipe, including using frozen fruit:
- Are your mangoes hard? No worries. I have a whole post on how to ripen a mango.
- Use canned fruit. I go for canned fruit as a second option because it’s soft and sweet, just like fresh. So the end shake will be the same texture.
- Use frozen fruit. Frozen fruit has a slightly muted taste, so you’ll need to add honey to sweeten it. Also, be sure to use less ice cream/more milk as the hard fruit will give the shake plenty of thick texture.
- Taste the milkshake before serving. Even with fresh fruit, you can’t know how sweet the drink will be. So, leave the sugar for the end and add it as needed.
Recipe Variations
You can do so many things to customize this delicious mango milkshake. Below are a few of my favorite recipe variations.
- Make it vegan. Swap the whole milk for full-fat coconut milk and the ice cream for your favorite vegan version.
- Turn it into a healthy smoothie. Skip the ice cream altogether and use plain Greek yogurt.
- Protein, protein, protein! Bump up the protein with your favorite powder or nut butter.
- Try it with spices. This recipe already calls for cardamom. But you can add ginger, saffron, or cinnamon for extra deliciousness.
- Make popsicles! Pour your milkshake into popsicle molds for a fun, on-the-go treat.
- Add more fruit. Try it with bananas, passion fruit, and pineapple for the ultimate tropical milkshake.
- Make it a boozy milkshake. Add coconut rum or vanilla vodka.
